"The Road" by Cromac Mccarthy demonstrates a cold, gloomy, harsh setting, where a young boy and his father have to survive for their life's without taking the chance of loosing one another.
The father, of the young boy had a mission to accomplish: he believes that he has been entrusted by God to keep the boy safe and to protect him from harm and evils of the unknown world. "What would you do if I died? If you died I would want to die too."(page 3) This means that the Men would sacrifice his life for his one and only son because as a father that is his commend/duty to save his son's life and protect him from the unknown world that surrounds them. He must push himself and the boy to extreme measures in order to survive."Can we drink the water? We don't have a choice." (Page 65) They father and the boy had no supply because they eventually ran out. They had no another choice and drink from the dirty river and take the risk of getting sick or surviving by putting water inside their body. This means that the father didn't really care at this point if they drink from a river full of bacteria and can cause diseases. The connection that the men feel with his son is strong, and throughout the novel the man made great sacrifices to allow his son to love on and have a future in a world that has gone down. The boy doesn't want to live unless his dad is not with him. Unfortunately towards the ending of the book that the dad dies." What about my papa? There's nothing else to be done. "(page 93) The boy showed sympathy toward his dad and his death , he was able to show his dad kindness to others. "Ill talk to you every, day he whispered. And i wont forget. No matter what." Before leaving the boy had whispered this to his dad and showed how strong of a boy he had become with his dad's skills that he had shown him.
Before dying the men had a mission to accomplish which was for his son to survive, no matter the circumstance he had to go through. At the end of the story he was able to accomplish his mission by giving up his own life so his son can survive.
